The enzymatic breakdown of the fibrin in blood clots. This process is often accelerated in trauma patients. Clots are formed but rapidly break down. Tranexamic acid (TXA) is administered to stabilize clots. PRONUNCIATION: FIB-rin-o-LY-sis.
