The practice of resuscitating trauma patients with large volumes of intravenous crystalloid solutions. Popular for decades, aggressive crystalloid resuscitation has been shown to be harmful in a number of ways. This practice has now largely been replaced by early transfusion of whole blood or 1:1:1 blood component therapy.
