Trendelenburg position

The patient is supine, with the full bed tilted toward the head. This position is sometimes used emergently in hypovolemic patients to promote vital organ perfusion until volume can be restored. In REVERSE Trendelenburg position, the patient is also supine, but the full bed is tilted downward, towards the feet. This position can be used in trauma patients to reduce pressure on the diaphragm (e.g., in a patient with abdominal compartment syndrome) or to raise the head of a patient who is on a long backboard (e.g., the TBI patient).
