In the U.S., all trauma centers must be approved by state or other governmental regulatory bodies in order to become a designated trauma center. "Verification", conferred by the American College of Surgeons, is a process for ensuring certain universal standards, processes, and resources are in place. Individual states and trauma centers determine whether a hospital will also be required to meet ACS verification requirements.
