A non-cellular blood product that has been melted prior to use. Once thawed, previously frozen plasma has a shelf life of 1-7 days, depending on blood bank practices and protocols. Thawed plasma must be kept refrigerated and warmed for transfusion. Having thawed plasma rapidly available decreases the time to transfusion because thawing plasma requires 15-30 minutes.
